- From the 18th to the 20th of November 2009, the EULARINET Latin American-European Workshop on Environment took place in Bogotá, Colombia. The workshop, which gathered approximately 50 researchers from Latin America and Europe, was aimed at exchanging ideas and identifying mutual research priorities and potentials in the area of environment. The workshop was organised in light of the increasing pressures on the environment, which over the past centuries have become a mayor challenge worldwide and which should be addressed as such. As strong international collaboration in environmental research is needed to tackle these challenges, to mitigate negative effects, to find adaptation strategies and to protect the earth in the future, it was decided to dedicate this first EULARINET thematic workshop to environmental issues. As it appears from the workshop agenda the approach of the workshop was double sided integrating plenary sessions as well as working groups that should ensure that current interests and priorities of Latin American and European Scientists were discussed in order to agree on and present a set of thematic S&T recommendations to the European Commission along with concrete proposals for future topics of international calls, the so-called “SICAs”. The working groups focused on the following issues; i) Biodiversity and Natural Resources , ii)Climate changes, iii) Water Research and Water Technologies
